Here's a little bit about me. Both me and my wife Debbie are from Portsmouth, VA originally. A year after we graduated from Cradock High School we were married. That was 1973 and we moved to Maple, NC in Currituck County. We were still working in Norfolk and driving back and forth.
Then, in 1978 we joined my Brother and Brother-n- Law in the home building business on the Outer Banks. The beach was really undeveloped at that point. The main road was only 2 lanes wide and there was only 2 stoplights in the whole County! We built a house on Roanoke Island, raised two children and loved living there! Now our children have children and everything I've heard about Grandkids is true, they a great!
All along the way, through 43 years of marriage we have been enjoying Kerr Lake. My wife's family camped there when she was a little girl and we continued the tradition. Like many, we've gone through the whole camping thing starting with a tent, then a slide in truck camper, motor home and finally a pull camper. After 28 years of that I had enough camping so we bought a house on the Lake in 2001.
We love boating and fishing and just being on the water. I have been lucky to enjoy both salt water and fresh water fishing and boating. I haven't met many people who are on the water more then we are. You too? Then we should meet!
Lake living is great. The kids and now grandkids enjoy it as well, not to mention the dogs. So, how does this all fit into with selling real estate at the Lake. Well, I have been selling real estate on the Outer Banks since 1980, 5 years before we even had an MLS. The two markets have a lot of similarity. Most are 2nd home sales, some are weekly rentals and the closer you get to the water, the higher the values. A resort market is different from a year round market. the motivations and goals of a buyers and sellers are different. I get it and I love helping buyers find their perfect 2nd home or investment property as well as helping sellers move up or out to achieve their next phase of life. I have dealt with buyers and sellers in the lowest price range to the highest and both are exciting to me. With my background in building, I can help clients with a lot of questions and concerns along the way.
I have continually obtained additional education through various real estate designations and franchise sales training. I have also been active in our local and state REALTORS Associations throughout my career. So now, I am also involved with real estate on Lake Gaston and Kerr Lake. It seems like a natural fit for me because for 43 years, I have been studying the market!
